“Banners on Parade” was such a great success that it is happening again! The decorated banners for "Banners on Parade 2008" will hang on light poles on Placerville ’s historic Main Street from June through September. Following the exhibit, the banners will be auctioned off at the October 18, 2008 Art & Wine Festival, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Art on Parade and individual artists. View all the Banners!The exhibition features 30 colorful banners up and down historic Main Street that have been painted by artists, students, and organizations throughout the community. The banners were judged by local college art professors Margaret Welty and Aleris Hart. Walking guides are available at local merchants highlighting the artist, title and location of each banner. This great event is viewable 24 hours a day along historic Main Street .
 
JUNE through OCTOBER, Saturdays as shown below, Jazz or Blues in the Plaza, 1PM – 4PM, at the Fountain Plaza Courtyard on Historic Main Street. Come tap your toes to some great jazz or blues music with a new featured band every time. Admission is free. This year’s dates for 2008 are 6/14, 6/28, 7/12, 7/26, 8/9, 8/23, 9/6, 9/20, 10/4, 10/18. JULY through OCTOBER, Wednesdays, TBA, Wednesday Night Farmers Market, 5PM-8PM? This event is in the planning stages and we hope to be able to host fresh produce and flower booths from local farmers on Historic Main Street near the Bell Tower. Info to follow.
 
AUGUST 10th, Craft Faire, 8AM - 3PM in Historic Downtown Placerville. Main Street closes to host the 12th Annual Craft Faire with over 100 artisans from all over the West featuring pottery, woodwork, quilted and decorating items, dolls, garden items, soaps, candles, jewelry, food, and much, much more. AUGUST 16th, Girls’ Night Out, 6PM to 9PM. This fun new event focuses on activities that appeal to women. Historic Main Street merchants stay open late for shopping, fashion shows, games, floral arranging, cooking demos, crafting demos, raffles, health and beauty demos, massage, restaurant specials, samplings of olive oil, wine, cheese, chocolate, and much more. SEPTEMBER 28th, Antique Street Faire - 8AM to 3PM in Historic Downtown Placerville - The 20th Annual Antique Street Faire closes Main Street to host over 100 antiques & collectibles peddlers for this huge event. OCTOBER 5th, Hangtown Jazz Jubilee, 11AM – 5PM. Jazz bands will entertain inside merchant locations on Historic Main Street for this popular musical event. Parade, costume contests and more. For info call (530) 622-8186.
 
OCTOBER 18th, Art & Wine Festival, 6PM – 9PM. Over 35 foothill wineries will offer samples of their wines inside merchant locations on Historic Main Street in Placerville. In addition, the works of many local artists will be on display for this wonderful art & wine walk. Music, art demonstrations & hors d’oeuvres, too. TICKETS ARE LIMITED and will are available at The Winesmith, Tony Matthews and River City Bank in Placerville, or by calling PDA. Sponsored by the Placerville Downtown Association. OCTOBER 31st, Trick or Treat on Main Street, 4PM to 6PM in Historic Downtown Placerville. Historic Main Street merchants will provide goodies to trick-or-treaters (while supplies last) in a safe and convenient environment. Sponsored by Historic Main Street merchants. Other activities will include a costume contest and carnival and are sponsored by Placerville Parks & Recreation, Placerville 20/30 Club and Placerville Lions Club. For info call (530) 672-3436.
 
NOVEMBER 28th, Festival of Lights, 5:30PM – 8PM on Historic Main Street in Placerville. The old-fashioned festivities will close Historic Main Street and begin around 5:30PM at various locations up and down Main Street with music, entertainment, Santa, stagecoach rides, Holly Jolly Trolley rides (to outlying parking lots), and the tree-lighting at 6PM at the Courthouse. NOVEMBER 28th & 29th, Merchants Open House, Extended Hours. Historic Main Street merchants welcome visitors with coffee, cider and seasonal goodies. DECEMBER 7th, 31st Annual Christmas Parade, 1PM. on Historic Main Street. This big parade takes place rain or shine and starts at the Mountain Democrat parking lot on upper Broadway in Placerville and continues down Main Street. Sponsored by Jim & Cathy McIntire.
